Our first port was in the Dominican Republic. Samana is a small town on the bay, but there was Los Haisteses National Park with mangroves and Tainos caves with pictograms that are a big draw. The weather was beautiful and the scenery equally as nice. |
Samana, Dominican Republic |
Off our balcony in the morning as we came into Samana, we saw this cute little island with its beautiful palm trees |
We took a tender to the pier, then hopped on a speedboat |
Our boat raced across Samana Bay to the Los Haitises National Park, where we saw many birds like vultures, pelicans, and the funny looking American Frigate, where males were courting females with their red pouches. Does size matter? |
Cave pictograms from the Tainos included pictures of their Shaman, along with other images |
We then crossed the bay again and ended up on that little island that we saw from our cabin in the morning. There we ate a late lunch, explored, and enjoyed the sun |
Our ship smiled as we returned to her |
Another one of my all time favorite pictures |
After viewing the birds, we docked on a couple of small islands and explored caves, where we saw the roots of the trees above searching for fresh water inside. |
We also motored through the mangroves, viewing their elaborate root systems |
Madeline chills out on the boat |
