When we left Copenhagen, we flew into Berlin. We arrived mid-morning and our flight home was the next day, so we had plenty of time to visit the historic city. We stayed in the heart of the city near the cathedral and decided to do a hop-on hop-off bus tour. It was another beautiful day and we got a great feel for the city.

“Do they not believe in jetbridges in this part of the world?”

We checked into the hotel and then had a nice American meal.

Our tour began and we naturally chose to sit out in the open. It was a Sunday, so the city was alive.

The Reichstag building (a). The Carillon tower (r) has 68 bells, and we were lucky enough to hear them chime!

The Victory Column

The Zoo

Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church was built in the 1890s, but damaged heavily by bombs in 1943.

Of course we drove by the famous wall, and got off the bus to actually touch a piece of it near Checkpoint Charlie.

We got off the bus at Alexanderplatz, where we had great views of Red City Hall and St. Mary’s Church. We went up in The Fernsehturm, or Berlin TV Tower, which gave us great views of the city.

The day ended with a walk to the Berlin Cathedral, which was finished in 1905 and showed signs of bullet holes from the war.
