We were determined to get to Key West, and it seemed like our 33rd Anniversary was a good time to do it. We booked ourselves into a Sheraton in Key West, but then decided that we wanted to enjoy our drive down, too. We decided that we’d drive to Miami Beach, spend an afternoon and evening there, and then take our time driving through the keys.

Miami Beach and Drive thru Keys

Text Box: Back to Florida

02/27/19—03/04/19

We left the house in the morning and ended up in Miami Beach early afternoon. We passed by the Holocaust Memorial and checked into the MVC Pulse. Our room looked right at the beach. We went over to the beach for awhile before having a drink and dinner. Our resort lit up as the sky got dark. The next morning we woke to a beautiful sunrise.

We began heading towards the keys, going across Highway 1 through Key Largo first. We passed through Islamorada and saw a giant lobster. I read in a travel magazine that Midway Café in Islamorada was a great place to stop for lunch, and so we did. The travel magazine was right.

We continued into Marathon, where we stopped at Sombrero Beach and took a few photos in the Atlantic. We also took another “Madeline sitting on a bench” photo.

Continuing on, we made it to Key West, where we checking into the Sheraton. Madeline gave me a new underwater camera when we got to the room, so we went to the pool and tried it out.

It was time for dinner, so we walked to the Hyatt and went to Shor, where we had a nice meal and saw our first great Key West sunset.
