We took a very early morning five-hour flight to LAX, where we then got off the plane, walked down one gate, and got back on the next plane to take another 5˝ hour flight to Kauai. With a six-hour time zone change, we got to the Marriott tired and hungry. This was our home for the next three nights, and we barely got to enjoy its beautiful pool. We did enjoy its restaurants, however, and the picturesque beach.

On our second day, we took a helicopter ride over the island. It was the first time Dana was in a helicopter, so not a bad initiation for her.

The beautiful Kauai Marriott Resort is a combination hotel/MVC resort. We had a 2BR Villa, with an okay view of the bay.

We introduced Dana to the Kauai chickens, and they had feral cats living there as well.

We ate sushi at Toro-Tei the first night, trying to get our stomachs on local time. The next night we met an old colleague of Dana’s at Café Portofino for some delicious Italian. Our last night, we had to have the Hula Pie at Duke’s.

We also took some photos along the beach, where we were quickly reintroduced to the Dana Face.

We rode in a Jack Harter Hughes 500 without the doors, just like we did in 2013. As we took off from the airport, we immediately flew over the Marriott. Dana was a little nervous at first, but quickly started enjoying the ride. It was fun to see the Tunnel of Trees that we went through earlier in the morning and is shown on the next page.

We flew over and into many of the canyons on Kauai, such as Olokele and Waimea, oftentimes seeing a huge waterfall.

The highlights of the flight were probably the Manawaiopuna Falls (Jurassic Park Falls), the crying walls of Mt. Waialeale, and the beautiful Na Pali coast.
