Our resort for the beginning of the week was in Vermont. We did a lot of driving through the small towns of the state and in Western NH as well. It reminded me a little of Germany, where each town was about ten miles from the next.
These two states were by far the prettiest regarding fall colors. Our resort, the Jackson Gore Inn, was located at the base of Okemo Mountain, in the south central part of VT. We were probably a week or two early for the peak of the colors, but it was still beautiful. The resort is actually a ski resort, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. After the first night when a wedding reception was being held there, we never saw a single person on our floor and hardly anyone anywhere else. Needless to say, it was very peaceful. |
Vermont & new Hampshire |
We kind of took a wrong turn on our way to find our resort, so we ended up driving 2.5 miles to nearly the top of Okemo. We then got out and hiked the last quarter mile or so, climbed 60 steps up a fire tower, and ended up with this wonderful view of the mountain and the valley below |
We finally worked our way down the mountain and found our resort. Our suite was very nice, although the TV could have been a little bigger. |
We expected a rainy day on Monday, so we decided that we would just drive around VT and check out some of the many covered bridges. Before we left on vacation, I found a list of bridges and mapped them out on Yahoo, but there were no addresses to plug into the GPS, so it became a bit of a game to try to find them all. |

We had to go to some interesting places in order to get the right shot, even when it was raining |
We had another day of spitting rain, so we decided to go hiking at Buttermilk Falls near our resort, and then driving into New Hampshire to check out the foliage and the horses |
