We had not been back to our Marriott Vacation Club home resort since 2010, so we figured it was time to do it. Getting into Oceana Beach Club was difficult, though. We found a week before Mother’s Day that was available, so we grabbed it. I had to work some and Madeline had to be careful with the sun, so we spent a lot of time under umbrellas and just relaxing. We did do a number of walks, though, and the Payne family came and visited us for a couple of days, so we found lots of time to have fun.

We began the week with a little bit of beach time at Blind Creek Beach. We then moved down to Riviera Beach and checked into Oceana Palms. We had a lovely view of the Atlantic from our 19th floor room. We ate our first dinner at the resort.

The sunrise was gorgeous. We drove up the shore to MacArthur Beach State Parke, where we did two different walks. We then drove down the shore some and explored North Palm Beach a bit before returning to the resort. We just hung out at the pool for the afternoon and then walked over to The Islander for a marvelous dinner. We casually returned to our resort along the beach.

Our day began with a nice walk along our beach. The sky was a beautiful blue and Oceana Palms was a stark contrast. We then went to Blowing Rocks Preserve. We timed the high tide just right, but the ocean wasn’t all that rough, so we didn’t have great luck with the blowholes. Still, it was a nice walk. We returned to the resort for some more pool time. That night, we went to Pelican Café, which had a wonderful décor and some fantastic food.

Another beautiful sunrise began our day before we went out for a walk on Hog Hammock Trail. That afternoon, we visited the folks at MVC and then the Paynes arrived. Myles loved running on the beach.

After breakfast on the balcony, we took a walk down the beach. Myles got to build a little sand castle, but it seemed like he didn’t like the ocean as much as the pool, so we moved over to the kiddie area and Myles loved the slide. In the afternoon, they took him to a nearby playground. In the evening, we all went out for dinner and then played at the resort.

We had a final breakfast and walk along the beach with the Paynes, and then Myles decided he wanted to chill out by the pool before they left. We spent the afternoon working and watching a huge sargassum tide roll in. It kept getting closer and closer and we went down to the beach in the evening to check it out. We went back to The Islander for dinner and said goodnight to Palm Beach Shores.

This day was more relaxing than the others. We had our typical breakfast on the balcony and then a walk at the Russo Athletic Complex. We worked and hung out by the pool in the afternoon. For the evening, we made reservations at Sailfish, which we had eaten at before and knew that it was fancy. We were disappointed, though, because they really didn’t seem like they wanted to accommodate Madeline’s allergies, and then the manager came out and was rude to us. It’s the last time we’ll go there. We did enjoy our walk through Palm Beach Shores, though, and took a nice picture.

It was time to check out of Oceana Palms, but not before we had one final balcony breakfast. Just like it had been all week, the weather was perfect. We gathered our stuff, placed it on a cart, and went back home. It was the kind of vacation that years ago we never would have imagined, but just relaxing was exactly what we wanted. The fact that the Paynes joined us was an added bonus.
